Apo Whang-Od, a 106-year-old tattoo artist from Buscalan, has made it onto the cover of Vogue Philippines magazine’s beauty issue,Stated to be the oldest star to ever front the magazine’s cover, taken over from the previous title holder, Dame Judi Dench who is 85-year-old.Apo, also known as Maria Oggay,began the art of mambabatok during her teenage years based in her mountain village deep in the country’s capital, manila , is a master at hand-tapping tattoos and the country’s oldest traditional Kalinga tattoo artist – also termed as mambabatok. Her designs are made with the use of a bamboo stick, a thorn from a pomelo tree, water and coal.
