A governorship aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh Monday held an interactive forum with members of different Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Ebonyi State.
Eze called the people of the State to be effective participants in politics to enable them to vote for the right candidate and tackle their sufferings.
Ezeh, the Chairman of the Immaculate Group of Companies said that he decided to come into politics to correct the wrongs going on, that if things are working well he would have remained as the businessman he is.
He emphasized that the Ebonyi citizens should participate actively in politics to unravel the underlying issues affecting them in the state including poverty and insecurity.
He advised that the electorate should not assume the activities associated with the governance in the society as exclusively reserved for high-class people.
“We must encourage our people to get into politics, we must leave the surface and go down to begin to solve the problems if we don’t do that, nobody will do that for us.
“We need to talk to ourselves and now that politics is not for evil people, but for everybody to make things good.”
He urged the people to check the records of candidates vying for one political position or the other before casting their votes.
“We need to investigate the records of every candidate vying for public offices, why? It is because you cannot change the records of every candidate irrespective of how sugar-coated their tongues are to buy your votes.
“Forget what every candidate is saying, we must investigate every candidate to know if they are worth being our leaders that will make positive change, especially in line with global challenges.
“If I have been in power and have not begun to empower anyone, then, I am part of the problem. If I am a tout and I am given power, I will become a thief.
“As a tout who was eventually elected into the position, you can’t change the person, but you rather empower him the more,” he argued.
He said if elected his government will be anchored on three pillars of recovery, rebuilding, and restoration of Ebonyi State, and further advised Ebonyi people against selling the state to the highest bidder, saying it would mortgage their future.
The aspirant condemned the rising security challenges facing the South East Zone saying that the zone is dying slowly.
“The South East region is dying a slow but painful death,” noting that “our youths need jobs, our small businesses need a supportive environment to thrive, and the time we are in, calls for entrepreneurs, intellectuals and technocrats to get involved in politics and political process.”
A participant in the meeting and state coordinator coalition of eastern NGOs Nancy Oko-Onya in her submission said there is a need to educate the voters on how to identify a credible candidate in an election and also how to vote appropriately.
