2023: I will win Igariwey -Eni

Ruth Oginyi

2023 general election aspirant for Afikpo North/ South Federal Constituency, Barrister Eni Iduma Chima said that he was going to win the incumbent member of the federal constituency, Hon. Idu Igariwey.

Eni who is the current chairman of Afikpo South local government area, Edda, explained that it was morally wrong for the incumbent to re-contest for the position since the position has remained in Afikpo North for 16 years.

Eni, spoke in Abakaliki when the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ebonyi state council presented an award to him.

According to him, he was favored in position in 2019 but the powers prevailed on him to allow Idu Igariwey to do two tenures before he would contest.

“Whatever criteria you view to assess the individual members of the society, you use to find me good to receive this prestigious award, my assurance to all and sundry is that, I will continue to strive to deserve these several awards and I will not disappoint the Nigeria Union of Journalists. I will not carry on in such a way that people will say what did you find in this man by giving him one award let alone several awards.

“You have always called my attention to issues I should know. You have always given me advice and guidance where necessary, and you have always done those things that will bring out the best in me; you have always pointed out errors where and when you find them, and for these I am grateful.

“I will invite you to also give blame where you find them. And each time you pinpoint errors in our administration, we are willing and ready to follow your advice. I will also use this opportunity to solicit your support for my outing to the house of representatives. To represent Afikpo North And Afikpo South Federal Constituency. While I will feel free to solicit your support is that I am one of you.

“I am inviting you to make reproves and corrections whenever the need arises. Considering the outing, I have discharged my duties very well as executive chairman of Afikpo South local government area of Ebonyi State. By August ending, my tenure shall be ending, but before that, I will be inviting the NUJ Ebonyi State chapter on an assessment.

“To the last assessment for me. To visit my projects because I have a lot of things to show off and also to see what I have been able to achieve, and that will give you the moral impetus to canvas for and favor me in your reportage when I will be going for my campaign from September 2022 our campaign will properly take off. During that campaign, I am not shy but I will feel bold to do my campaign. I want the campaign of 2023 to be peaceful, devoured of rancor and acrimony.

“What I shall be telling my opponent my elder brother Rt. Hon. Idu Igariwey is that if he is coming to campaign in Edda he should let me know so that I will help him arrange the canopies and organize a reception for them so that when they finish their campaign they can come and eat, drink and go in peace because I want to win him on merit.

“During the debate, I will be exposing a lot of things including the fact that morally, he has no reason to contest the position again because it is shared between Afikpo South and Afikpo North. It was Afikpo South for 8 years but it has been in Afikpo North for 16 years. And during the 2019 election, I was favored to contest it by the power that is but I pisaded on his behalf that he should be allowed to do two tenures after which I will step in and continue from where he stops.

” We went to the extent of doing a written agreement in that regard. But I am not relying on that agreement to win, but I will only put at that agreement to say that he has a moral obligation not to contest against me because it was agreed before his traditional rulers and before my traditional rulers.

“The agreement was executed at the palace of His Royal Highness Ezego Architect Ewa Elechi. But whether he will abide by that agreement or not, I am prepared to win him on merit. We will do our campaigns peacefully. When we will win and we will be magnanimous in victory.
