Access Bank Fuels Future Innovators at STEM Africa Fest 2024
Access Bank has reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing young tech enthusiasts by sponsoring the 2024 edition of STEM Africa Fest, recently held in Lagos and Abuja. This annual event, spearheaded by STEM METs and 9ijakids, aims to equip children with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to thrive in the 21st century.
The 2024 festival captivated over 4,500 children with a range of exciting tech experiences, including interactive workshops, tech career talks, and hands-on STEAM labs. Participants engaged in sessions focused on AI, Machine Learning, Coding, Robotics, and more, fostering a deep interest in technology and innovation.
A highlight of the event was a panel session featuring industry experts and public officials who shared insights aligned with the festival’s theme, “Igniting Change through CleanTech and STEAM.” Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), addressed the audience, emphasizing the transformative power of STEAM education. “STEAM education empowers students to take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, and develop critical thinking skills,” Dr. Maida noted.
Jadesola Adedeji, Co-founder of STEM METs and one of the event’s organizers, reflected on the initiative’s impact since its inception and announced its expansion to other African countries. “This year, the festival will also take place in Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Kenya, marking a significant milestone in our mission to inspire and equip Africa’s youth with the skills needed for the future,” she stated.
Co-founder of 9ijakids and event organizer also expressed gratitude to the partners who supported the initiative, including Lotus Bank, Argentil Capital, Oando, Flour Mills, Gradely, Asset & Resource Management Company Limited (ARM), and the NCC. “STEM Africa Fest is more than just an event; it’s a movement to equip African children with the skills they need to thrive in a technology-driven world,” she said.
The event concluded with a STEM quiz and pitch competition, where participants competed for over N3 million in prizes, fostering a spirit of innovation and healthy competition. Ohiagu Munachimso Chidiebere from Owerri emerged as the winner of the pitch competition, taking home a cash prize of N1 million.
