The association of friends other wise called “Up ASSO” located at the heart of Maryland Ikeja, Lagos state Nigeria drawed a programme to celebrate it’s 45 year of existence.
Speaking to journalists at the clubhouse at Maryland.
The president Otunba Kole Olatunji, gave the background of the association, carving a vision and dream of the eight young men founders namely: (Late) Alh. (Chief) Suleiman Onabiyi – okanlomo of igba land, Asiwaju Architect Festus Adeleke Adeshina – pioneer president, Asiwaju Engineer Akinlawon Akanni Abiola a.k.a. Gentleman – the pioneer vice president, others includes, Oba Fatai Irawo – Ogunsi – second president of the club, (Late)Prince Ayinde Adesiyan, Evangelist Kola Sanyaolu, Mr. Sunday Adigun, Otunba Kunle Adesanya (Liberty) – general secretary of the club.
The association which came to life in 1978 to concretize their fledging relationship and dominance of Lagos city social space into a sustainable institution that will outlive them.
He said, among them are elected former governors, royal fathers, retired and serving public servants, high ranking politicians and successful entrepreneurs.
The 45th anniversary will gave birth to the launch of a N100m development fund for the general renovation of the clubhouse and a community health intervention: free eye test within the neighborhood which commence on Tuesday November 21st, Wednesday 22nd of November for a business summit titled “OMOLUABI”, Tennis concept, ethos, practice and culture lectures to be delivered by a renounced banker and financial expert Chief Abayomi Majekodunmi while the honourable commissioner for information Lagos state Mr. Gbenga Omotosho will deliver a lecture on “what citizens need to know about the centre for excellence” and Friday the 24th will take inter religious prayers hosting friends and well wishers to a suya night.
The grand finale, Gala night and presidential night and inauguration of new members will hold from 2pm Sunday Nov 26th at the same venue
Otunba Olatunji added that, a sport center was constructed in honour of Sir Kensington Adebukunola Adebutu.
The president enjoined media practioners and stake holders to work towards the success of the coming event.
