Bayelsa State Commissioner Discovers Pupils Forced to Wash Cassava During School Hours

Education Commissioner Uncovers Shocking Misuse of Pupils’ Time at Rural Bayelsa School

Bayelsa State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dr. Gentle Emelah, was taken aback during a routine inspection of Community Primary School 1 & 2 Angalabiri in Sagbama Local Government Area. During his visit, Dr. Emelah found pupils washing freshly harvested cassava on the school premises during learning hours.

The pupils revealed that they had not participated in any lessons that day, as their teachers tasked them with harvesting cassava. The teachers admitted to the commissioner that they had indeed assigned the pupils to work for them and pleaded for forgiveness.

Expressing deep displeasure with the situation, Dr. Emelah summoned the absent Head Teacher and all other teachers to report to his office in Yenagoa for appropriate sanctions. He emphasized the importance of maintaining educational standards and ensuring that pupils’ time is devoted to learning.
