Charity Ladies Club Umutu (CLC), an internationally coordinated humanitarian association of daughters of Umutu origin, have decided to shake up things a little in its program of end-of-year party and annual charity program, by organizing a massive Christmas party for children together with other array of activities to contribute to the development of the community. The events will kick off on December 27, 2024, in Umutu town.
The club’s President, Laureta Erhabor, highlighted that the club is has continued in its tradition of offering support to individuals and also sponsoring initiatives to improve the lot of their people. She disclosed that this year’s event will feature a variety of activities will be meaningful and also, create excitement among the children to let them have a feel of the Christmas celebration.
According to Erhabor, the year’s program includes cash donations, empowerment initiatives, scholarships, and special recognition for some older members for their pathfinder role. These efforts reflect the club’s ongoing commitment to showing empathy and addressing the critical needs of the community.
The Club’s Spokesperson, Ugo Michaels, highlighted that the vision of the Club is to make impact in their aboriginal home, noting, “it’s our way of giving back to the community where we were born and raised up, in order to foster unity and collaboration of our womenfolk”, she said.
The spokesperson disclosed that under the pragmatic leadership of Laureta Erhabor, the club has approved some initiatives that will unleash the creative talents of the youths and inspire them to greater heights in their educational and career pursuits.
Some of the activities during the event includes:
A Children’s Party; a festive gathering for approximately 300 children, aimed at bringing joy and celebration to the young ones in the community.
There will be a Graduation Ceremony honouring eleven trainees who have completed their programs at the Delta State Skills Acquisition Center, Umutu, sponsored by the CLC.
Another important activity is the WAEC Fee Payment, where financial assistance to cover the West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees would be made for ten students, ensuring they can continue their education without financial barriers.
In addition to these activities, the club will recognize the contributions of the former members of the defunct Charity Ladies Social Club of Nigeria. This celebration aims to strengthen the bond among members and reinforce the spirit of unity and collective effort for the betterment of the Umutu community.
CLC’s history of community service is marked by significant achievements, such as sponsoring 15 youths for skills acquisition training and consistently supporting local educational initiatives. The club is also known for its unique tradition of celebrating the birthdays of mothers in Umutu by presenting them with cakes and gifts, thereby fostering a sense of belonging and appreciation within the community.
In order to provide a platform for everybody to share in the vision, the CLC is calling on all Umutu indigenes and well-wishers to contribute to this year’s charity event, saying “such support will be pivotal in ensuring huge success of the program, especially expanding the scope of activities to cater for more beneficiaries.
