Don’t be afraid of the president of an Igbo man- Umahi

By Ruth Oginyi

Chairman, southeast Governor’s Forum, and Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr David Umahi, Thursday said Let nobody be afraid of the president of an Igbo man as southeast presidency will unify Nigeria.

Gov. Umahi had visited the Aso rock and informed President Buhari of his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election under his All Progressives Congress (APC).

He emphasized that the country will be more united under an Igbo man as its President as Igbo man has investments across the country and will not like to do anything that can divide the nation

He described it as a wrong notion by some sections of the country that Nigeria will be divided if an Igbo man becomes the President of the country.

Governor Umahi spoke in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital while addressing thousands of supporters who received him back to the state after intimating President Buhari of his ambition.

“Whomever God has called, he has already predestined unto safety and success and deliverance. And from the phone calls you are getting and the ones I am getting, it looks like this is the answer the nation Nigeria has been looking for.

“I want to appeal to you, we have two choices. One choice is to allow God to fight the battle. The other choice is to fight the battle. And if God is fighting the battle, we will keep our peace. How do we keep our peace? Do not provoke people, do not insult people. Other aspirants are more qualified than me but remember I am David.

“Let nobody be afraid of the presidency of an Igbo man. There is nobody from the southeast who will become President that will not work for the greater unity of this country because we have investment everywhere.

“Some enemies of southeast said if a southeast person becomes the President of this country, he will divide the country. How will he divide the country? We have investments everywhere. Will you set fire in your house?”

The Presidential Aspirant promised to fight corruption to a standstill and sustain President Buhari’s legacy if elected the President of the country.

APC chairman in the state Stanley Okoro in a remark, the presidential ambition of the governor is not the battle of the governor that it has been designed in Heaven and heaven will fight the battle for ndigbo.
He described umahi as a marketable commodity that Nigerians have been waiting for.
