A One-Day Refresher Course for Adult Education Facilitators has been held in the Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The program which took place at the Council Headquarters, Onuebonyi Echara was organized by the Office of Wife of the Governor, Uzoamaka Nwifuru, and Ebonyi State Agency for Adult Education/Mass Literacy in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Ikwo Local Government Area Chairman.
The facilitators were drawn from the twenty electoral wards that made up the Ikwo LGA.
Stella Nwagu Special Assistant to the Governor on Adult Education and Mass Literacy, while declaring the program open, explained that it was the interest of Mrs. Nwifuru in developing Ebonyi people educationally that led to the Refresher Course program which is geared towards encouraging the sensitization and mobilization of new learners to various learning centers across the in making the Education sector of the state the best in the country, disclosed that the gesture is part of Governor Francis Nwifuru’s efforts in stamping out illiteracy from the State.
Mrs. Nwagwu commended the Ikwo area Chairman, Bar. Sunday Nwankwo for being the first among the Council Areas to organize the Refresher Course.
She urged the facilitators to be proactive in helping the State Government in achieving its vision of establishing mass literacy.
In his remarks the Chairman, Mr. Sunday Nwankwo thanked the Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru for bringing a new life into Adult Education in the State and said that necessary mechanisms would be put in place to keep the program alive in Ikwo.
The Chairman further commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for his consistent desire to make Education a priority in his government through continuous massive provision of funds and other resources for teaching, learning, and sensitization to improve enrolment at all Adult and Non-former Education learning centers in the State.
He charged the facilitators to gather full knowledge of how the program was organized, pointing out that anything contrary to their mandate would be resisted.
