Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi State, and Special Security. Consultant to the state government has reacted to the attack on him and the killing of his brother by suspected political thugs on December 26th, 2022 in Ekoli Edda, Afikpo South local government area of the state.
He said he never instigated shootings in the area in which political thugs killed his younger brother and burnt his house, and also burn his Hilux van.
A Police inspector and a youth leader were also killed when the thugs struck.
Emegha described as wicked, falsehood, and mischievous, the reports in some quota that he was blowing sirens and shooting sporadically which provoked the killings.
He questioned why he was linked to the shootings in the community which started in Ameke village in the area where he went to inspect a town hall he was building for the people after receiving traditional rulers and elders of the community who visited him to congratulate him on the award given to him by Governor David Umahi.
He explained that the traditional rulers have absolved him of the shootings before Governor Umahi and challenged journalists to always cross-check their information before dishing them out to the public and expressed dismay over the reports.
He said he was hopeful that the security agencies in the state will unravel the truth and bring perpetrators of the evil act to book.
Emegha commended the state Governor for his quick intervention into the dastard act and peaceful leadership which he said prevented it from escalating.
” What people don’t know is that I was with traditional rulers who came to congratulate me on the recent award of His Excellency the Governor.
“After seeing the elders, I moved to where I a building a town hall for the people of my village. While I was there inspecting the building, I started hearing gunshots.
“As a peaceful person and a man under grace, I ordered security personnel that was me not to respond to the shootings because it will lead to many things which I will not as they obeyed me and we left the community immediately.
“At what point did I shoot and blow any siren?”, he said.
An eyewitness who didn’t want his name in print for security reasons said a bullet from the thugs would have killed him if not for God’s intervention.
“What happened in Ameke on 26th December 2022 was a clear assassination attempt on myself and the state APC Chairman”
