Ebonyi ICT Varsity : Government begins payment of Compensation

The government of Ebonyi State has commenced the payment of compensation to the owners of the lands it acquired for the establishment of ICT University at Oferekpe Agbaja in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The government had recently taken over about 58.12 hectares of land from the people of Oferekpe Agbaja and Amachara Communities in Izzi Local Government Area for the establishment of ICT University.

About 303 (Three hundred and three) affected persons were captured as beneficiaries.

The state Governor Francis Nwifuru assured the landowners that the government would compensate them

The state Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Dr. Mathew Nwobashi during the flag-off of the payment noted that only those who have crops, economic trees, and residential houses were captured for disbursement of the compensation fund by the government in line with the relevant laws.

The commissioner maintained that the payment was part of the actions of Governor Francis Nwifuru in keeping to his campaign promises which are anchored on people’s charter of needs.

According to him apart from payment of compensation to the members of the affected Communities, Government had secured a place to relocate them.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Fedrick Nwogbaga eulogized the Ministry of Lands and Survey for its transparency in handling the payment of compensation to the people.

So of the beneficiaries including Chukwuman Ofoke , Chief Anthony Nwazufu-Egbe and Mr Nkwegu Ojelegu who received the cheque for the compensation of their crops, economic trees, and residential houses thanked Governor Nwifuru for keeping to his words.

And assured of their support to the actualization of the project stressing that the University if established would bring employment opportunities and development closer to the people.
