King David University of Medical Sciences, Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, a newly established university in Ebonyi State southeast Nigeria Saturday, 11th June 2022 held her first matriculation ceremony.
The varsity matriculated Fifty-four students cut across the faculty of natural sciences (6 candidates), faculty of medical sciences (37 candidates), and faculty of health sciences (8 candidates).
Visitor to the school and governor of Ebonyi state Engr. David Umahi while addressing the matriculants warned them against any social vices that will mare their future.
Umahi also said that the staff should avoid striking activities which undermines educational programme in the country.
Umahi further said in the next academic session, another 14 students from the state and all the 36 state of the federation as well as FCT will be given scholarships by the state government the way it did for the first set of the students.
“I know that the lecturers and staff all over the country have not been treated fairly but we want this institution to be very exceptional. We will also incorporate no strike by students or staff, we will fill the cup.
“I have heard your oath of office but the Ebonyi State oath of office is going to be more dangerous. If you are viewed to be a cultist whether you are a staff or students, you are gone from the university. The Uburu man will pursue any cultist in this institution including those who encourage cultism”, he said.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Jessie Uneke congratulated Governor Umahi for bequeathing the state-of-the-art Institution to humanity.
“Today history is made and we are witnesses to the realization of the wonders of the 21st Century, the University has been adjudged to be the most beautiful in Nigeria.
“His Excellency has demonstrated that whatever beautiful thing that is possible to be achieved anywhere in the world is not only possible in Nigeria but also in Ebonyi State.”
A Guest Lecturer, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba applauded Governor Umahi for bequeathing the State of the art Institution to Ebonyi people and Nigerians at large.
“To whom much is given, much is expected, this University is number one in infrastructural facilities, and graduates of this Institution have every reason to be the best anywhere in the world.
“You have to produce the next generations of Medical Doctors that will be the best in the stock of Medical Doctors in the world”.
