Ponzal, the border area of northern Togo near Burkina Faso suffered a gruesome attack from insurgents on the 11th
The attack according to statements took the life of eight security officials, leaving a specific number of casualties.
The statement issued by the Togolese government further revealed that a group of unidentified insurgents attacked a military post in the Ponzal area on the Togo border at about 3 o’clock that day, killing eight security forces and injuring 13 others,
It was also stated that about 60 insurgents from Burkina Faso confronted the post and exchanged fire with soldiers of the security forces. The crossfire persisted for two hours. In addition to casualties, the attack left an armoured vehicle and a jeep on fire.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Last November, insurgents attacked security forces in Togo’s Ponzal region, but no one was killed.
