The performing Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area, Hon. (Princess) Benedicta Attoh today inaugurated a 12-member Committee on Revenue generation and collection in line with her administration’s commitment to ensure accountability and transparency in Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) of the Council.
The committee which was set up to cover the Okpella environment was the first to be inaugurated while others will be inaugurated at a date that shall be announced soon.
Hon. (Princess) Benedicta charges members of the committee to realize the urgency and importance of the task committed in their hands. “Your primary task is to ensure that revenue collectors in your jurisdiction comply with the laid down procedures for revenue collection. All payments must be receipted. Payment must only be made to relevant officials.”
According to her, “Your duty is to ensure that the revenue collectors issue the local government printed official receipts to the traders and other commercial workers who pay the levies, this is the only way to ensure that the local government revenue will not end up in private pockets,”

The Council Boss said, “You are not placed on salary. You will receive an agreed percentage of the revenue that comes into the council’s coffer from your area of operations at the end of every month. It is therefore important that you closely monitor the revenue collectors to ensure that for every money collected the official receipt is issued. So, the more money you generate into the council’s treasury, the more money you receive as commission.”
The committee membership is drawn from the four Wards of the Okpella zone. Members of the committee from Ward 5 are Shaibu Tairu, Elijah Stephen, and Ogiemile Samuel. Ward 6 has Emmanuel Ogene, Adamu Jonathan, and Pius Odion as members. Shaibu Mathew, Iregiegbe Timothy, and Kadiri Kenneth are members of Ward 7. From Ward 8 are: Aliu Abdulmalik, Aronokhale Muhammed Mahmud, Bello Bashmeen Abdulmumin, and Victor Idah.
The inauguration ceremony was witnessed by the Vice Chairman of the local government area, Hon. Sunny Peter, and other government functionaries.
