To address the national development planning challenges financial experts drawn from the 36 states of the federation have converged on Abakaliki Ebonyi state capital to proffer solutions towards achieving sustainable national development.
The experts are under the umbrella of the Joint Planning Board (JPB) and the National Council on Development Planning (NCDP).
The discourse is in its 21st edition, and it will last from April 6 to 8, 2022 with the theme, “Good governance and institutional capacity: pathways to sustainable national development.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and National Planning Mrs. Olusola Idowu hailed the participants and pointed out that the discourse will seek ways of addressing the nation’s development planning challenges.
She urged the stakeholders, to consider the economic realities facing the country while proffering solutions to national development planning challenges.
“These challenges include weak economic decisions, policy inconsistency, and monocultural dependence on oil, among others.
“Leaders and followers should collaborate in achieving sustainable national development through accountability and good governance,” she said.
“I commend Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi for delivering democratic dividends to Ebonyi people through the provision of quality infrastructure, and education, among others.
Governor. David Umahi, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe in his remarks assured the participants of the best hospitality from the government and people of Ebonyi.
“I am delighted to see relevant officials of the federal government, commissioners for finance, budget, development partners among others in the Ebonyi and this is a positive development for the state.
“We wish you success as you engage in technical discussions geared towards achieving optimum approach to increase the nation’s economic planning process,” he said.
Mrs. Mfon Williamson, Permanent Secretary of the Ebonyi ministry of Budget, Planning, Research, and Monitoring said that Ebonyi was the ideal venue for the meeting as a model of good governance embedded in accountability.
