FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Warns Governors Against Interference in Rivers State PDP Crisis

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), issued a stern warning to governors against any attempts to interfere in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Rivers State. Speaking at the PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt during the party’s state congress on Saturday, Wike vowed to “set fire” in any state whose governor attempts to meddle in the ongoing crisis within the Rivers State PDP.

This strong warning follows a meeting of PDP governors in Taraba State on August 23, where they discussed the internal strife in Rivers State. The governors, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, issued a communique backing Governor Sim Fubara and calling for a review of the party congress outcome to restore Fubara’s leadership role in the state.

Wike, however, condemned the governors’ call and charged them to stay out of Rivers State’s PDP affairs. He emphasized that as long as he is alive, no one would take control of the party’s structure from his camp.

“I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace, anything you see, you take,” Wike warned. He further cautioned that any governor who tries to interfere in Rivers State’s politics would face severe consequences in their own state.

The minister’s remarks underscore the deepening tensions within the PDP, particularly in Rivers State, as Wike continues to assert his influence despite no longer holding the governorship.
