Governor Diri Stands Firm: No Apology for Visit to President Tinubu

In a resolute stance, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has emphasized that he owes no one an explanation for his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu shortly after the Supreme Court’s verdict on the presidential election.

Governor Diri addressed the opposition’s concerns and asserted that their apprehension and spreading of misinformation about his visit are baseless. He defended the visit, stating that it was well within his rights to extend congratulations to President Tinubu following the Supreme Court’s decision.

Speaking during a campaign trail in Igbedi community, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Governor Diri clarified that his visit to the presidential villa was not out of the ordinary. He revealed that he engaged in substantive discussions on crucial state matters with President Tinubu, and he commended the President for his positive response to the issues raised.

Governor Diri affirmed, “As a sitting governor, there is a sitting president and I do not owe them any explanation about my visit to the president. If the Supreme Court affirms the president of the country, as a sitting governor, I reserve all the rights to visit him. But beyond that, I went for very serious state business and I can tell you that Mr President attended to all the issues I raised.”
