The Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Hon. Samson Folorunso Olatunde (SAMOLA) has led all residents, Community leaders and Stakeholders to be more prayerful, security conscious and gracious enough to support the Council administration in the protection of the Communities.
The Council Chairman who was represented by the Vice Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Hon. Ogungbemi Monsuru Temitope stated this during the Special Prayer Session for the Nation, Region, Lagos State, Olorunda LCDA and the Communities within, with the theme: “HEAL THE NATION”, today Thursday, 23rd June, 2022 at the Council Secretariat, as directed by the Community Development Advisory Council (CDAC) Lagos Chapter, under the Ministry of Local Government & Community Affairs.
He said- “the core objective of our gathering is to pray for God’s mercy, great love, peace, unity, safety security and divine protection in our Nation, State and Olorunda in its entirety”.
Hon. Olatunde said the issue of insecurity in Nigeria has become something of great concern to everyone, as the problem is escalating, with daily reports of domestic crimes, ritual killings, kidnappings, banditry, Farmers/herders conflicts, armed robbery, Cybercrimes, Boko Haram insurgency and other crimes known to affect economic growth, while thousands of lives and properties have been lost.
“As a responsible Government, we will leave no stone unturned in providing adequate security and enabling environment for the residents of Olorunda LCDA”- he said.
The Council Mayor said it was agreed that the insecurity has taken an enormous part on livelihood, obstructing meaningful activities and the Council was doubling it’s efforts on security matters and delivering dividends of democracy to the citizenry, while urging residents, stakeholders and religious bodies to build a framework of collective security protections.
Welcoming guests at the occasion, the Chairman of Community Development Committee (CDC) Olorunda Branch, Elder Ganiu Abu Adesina, disclosed that the prayer session became imperative, owing to the security challenges the country is currently facing, as evident in the spate of killings and kidnappings taking place across Nigeria.
In his remarks at the event, the Supervisor for Agriculture, Youths and Sports, Hon. Odu Abraham implored all residents of the LCDA to avoid keeping late nights, adding that all abandoned buildings in the communities should be reported to appropriate authorities and community leaders for precautionary measures to be taken to curb crimes and get rid of criminals in the environment.
The Leader of the House, Olorunda Local Council(LCDA) Development Area Hon. Ariwayo Christian, charged leaders of CDAs to step up security in all nooks and crannies of the communities and be more vigilant in order to reduce the incidence of insecurity.
He added that while expecting the government to play its role in providing adequate security, the people should also play their own role by being security conscious in their immediate environment.
He further challenged CDC/CDAs, been the fourth tier of government, to encourage residents in their various communities to collect their permanent voters card (PVCs) in preparation for the next general elections.
The Council Manager, Mr. Hundeyin Adeshina, in his own remarks, sensitized the people on the importance of hygiene saying that residents should take adequate care of their environment through regular sanitation and healthy living, which according to him, enhances development in the community.
The prayer was attended by Muslim, Christian Clerics faithfuls and by the Council Executives, Legislative Arm, Management team and representatives of the CDC/CDAs across Olorunda LCDA.
