Hon. Chinedu Ogah, member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in the house of representatives Tuesday paid the sum of three million, five hundred and ninety-six thousand (N3,596,000) to offset the bills of indigent patients trapped at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (FETHA).
The payment was part of activities marking his 46th birthday
Hon. Chinedu Ogah said that the bills of the indigent patients amount to about four million naira, but was reduced to three million five hundred and ninety -six thousand (N3,596,000) in partnership with FETHA management.
Ogah whose birthday celebration is slated to hold on 2nd July mapped out a three-day consistency project commissioning and empowerment program for the celebration.
He also visited St. Vincent’s old people’s home kpirikpiri, the motherless babies’ home Nsugbe, an underprivileged spot opposite St. Theresa’s Catholic cathedral Ogoja road Abakaliki and the center of the menial job seekers, popularly known as Okpoku-Ndu-Oru, opposite Abakaliki township stadium, where he distributed food, clothes, foot-wears, cash and other gifts to them.
Ogah further moved to Abakaliki and Afikpo Correctional Centres where he offered gifts and messages of hope to the inmates.
Ogah while distributing the Items pleaded with the people to get their PVCs ready for the 2023 election.
” We are here today to contribute a little to help some patients who are unable to cater for their treatment. We have a list of some patients whose bills are about four-point something million.
“But the CMD in partnering with us gave us a discount and we are paying 3,596,000 (three million five hundred and ninety-six thousand). We have eleven patients in Fetha 1 and fifteen patients in Fetha 2 among these people their bills are 53 to 300 thousand. All the bills are hereby paid.
“We want to assure you, being a member and a committee member in health services at the national assembly, I want to assure you that I will bring intervention to this hospital. We want to assure you that this hospital is going to be integrated with solar light so that the patients will be taken care of.
“So that the blood bank will be functional, the CCT scan will be functional and the oxygen will be functional. I was a victim because I lost my first son at FETHA 2 when it was still a specialist hospital under the state because of lack of oxygen.
“I want to appeal to everybody even if you don’t like me go and get your PVC. The PVC is your power with it you can negotiate with big men and get anything you want” he stated.
In his response, the Chief Medical Director of Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, FETHA, Dr. Emeka Ogah, thanked Hon. Chinedu Ogah for partnering with the hospital, pointing out that the lawmaker had always proffer solutions to the problem facing the hospital.
“He has been doing so much when I ran to him in Abuja, he took me from one office to another to make sure that our problem is solved. One thing we have decided to be doing here in other to save the women is that any woman that gave birth to twins, especially triplets as long as she is from the country will be delivered free” Ogah said.
Addressing inmates in the Abakaliki Correctional Centre, Ogah urged them not to allow their current situation to discomfort them.
He recounted his experiences in the same prison where he spent six months awaiting trial for an offense he knew nothing about.
“Being here does not mean that your own has finished. It is a moment of trial, it is for you to redefine your feature. I was once here for six months for the offense I don’t know, but when I came in here I learned a lot of things and I made new friends. This place made me understand different kinds of offenses.
“I am here to encourage you not to be depressed but have forgiveness of mind. Mandela was in the prison for many years and came out to become the president of South Africa, and so are most of the great leaders you know today who were once in the prison.
“I was here for the offense I don’t know but when I came out I became a great person. It is good to have a history, you need to change to become a great person, just tell yourself the truth and work for a better feature”, he said.
Other Lined-up activities for the birthday celebration included commissioning of roads, street solar lights, water boreholes, an inspection of ongoing projects in his consistency, free dispensing of PMS (Fuel) to commercial motor drivers, tricycle operators, motorcyclists (Okada riders), and breakfast by the lawmaker with them in Onueke Ezza south and Ohatekwe Primary School Field, Ikwo LGA on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively while all road leads to his Item Amegu country home on Saturday for empowerment and the birthday proper.
