Hon. Chinedu Ogah Celebrates Aji-Ereke Festival With His People; Preaches Peace, Uniity

All drums rolled out to Oroña Amagu play ground in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Tuesday April 18th, 2023 for the annual Aji-Ereke festival.

The festival attracted many government personalities, including the Ebonyi State Governor-elect, Chief Francis Nwifuru who was represented by the Deputy Governor-elect, Princess Patricia Obila.Senator-elect Engr Ken Eze, House of rep member elect under APGA Hon. Joseph Nwobashi, house of assembly members, chairman ikwo local government Bar Sunday Nwankwo among others

Aji festival is one of the celebrations that link the five autonomous communities in Ikwo.Report have it that the festival starts from Enyimu, Okpitumo to Amegu and ends with Ezeke community.How it starts: elders of the community will cut a ripped palm fruit which shows that it is time for the community’s time for the aji.

The annual festival starts on Eke market day and it will last for 7 days with different activities.But the 2023 Aji festival in Amegu ikwo was a different one as women and men from about 25 play grounds came together to dance and show case their different masquerads in Orana Amegu.

Speaking, the member representing Ikwo/Ezza-South constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Chinedu Ogah mmaintained that festival like aji promotes unity, love and commended the communities for coming together to celebrate.Hon. Ogah thanked the people for the interest they have in the continuity and exhibition of the culture of the land.

He explained that it was only through this culture that unity and peaceful coexistence could be attained in the society. He charged other political office holders and well-meaning individuals in Ikwo noyo to join hands in the celebration of the people’s culture as such would make it not go into extinction, and also it is one of the best ways way to unite the people.

In their separate remarks, the State Deputy governor Elect, Princess Patricia, Obila representing the Governor-elect, His Royal Highness, Eze Dominic Ibor Aloh, Erimogwudu 11 of Amagu Ikwo, His Royal Highness, Ogwudu III of Ndiagu Amagu Autonomous Community, Eze Isaiah Igboji Otubo, Dr. Emmanuel Oboñga, Chief Okeagu Ogada noted that the Cultural festival, Aji Ereke is a practice that unites, brings peaceful coexistence and progress amongst the people.

They commended the lawmaker Chinedu Ogah, for sponsoring and promoting Ikwo culture.Bar Sunday Nwankwo the chairman of Ikwo local government in his submission expressed joy that social media have not taken over the culture of the people and urged the youth to uphold the dignity of the Ikwo noyo clan.

A woman dancer, Alice Nwigboji from Obuegu Item, and other women told Citizens Advocate that Aji- Ereke helps women to know that it’s time for farming and it is the highest festival for women as they use the festival to showcase their best dress.The highlight of the event was a display of different masquerades by the people.
