Hon. Iduma Igariwey member representing Afikpo North/South Federal Constituency, Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, has urged the warring factions in the Ekoli-Edda Afikpo south local government to sheathe their swords and allow peace to reign.
He donated the sum of N5 million to the victims of the recent clash in the area.
He called on the state government to constitute a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the mayhem in the local government.
There was a crisis that led to the killing of four persons including a seven-month pregnant woman and the burning of valuable properties.
Igariwey said that the Ebonyi State government needed to midwife a genuine reconciliation in the community, stating that no community, state, or nation thrives in an atmosphere of fear, intimidation, killings, and destruction of property.
He said the government should constitute a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the crisis.
The aim of the inquiry, according to him, would be to bring the masterminds of the crisis to book, ensure that justice is done to the dead, as well as to forestall a repeat in the future.
“It is not enough to detain one or two persons in what amounts to protective custody without getting to the root cause of the problem”, Igariwey said.
