Hunger: NASS member distributes 200 bags of rice seeds, N70 million to farmers

The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, on Saturday distributed 200 bags of 25kg rice seeds to farmers in the constituency.

Ogah also shared N70 million to the farmers for the cultivation of rice seeds.

He urged the farmers to go into agriculture to tackle hunger and ensure food sufficiency.

The lawmaker described agriculture as a solution to the hunger and general hardship in the country and urged the people to go into farming to survive the situation.

He noted that the distribution of rice seeds and financial grants to the rural farmers was to improve agriculture in his constituency.

Ogah who is the chairman House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, warned the farmers against consuming the seeds

” I want to thank the president for allowing us to bring the dividend of democracy to our people.

“it is in support of the good administration of the state governor Francis Nwifuru. I thank you for believing in me.

“Let me warn, do not cook this rice, it is not good for consumption take it straight to the farm. If you eat it and have a problem don’t call my name”, he warned.

Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by Ofoke Kiran his Special Assistant to Agriculture, urged the beneficiaries to go into farming to boost food sufficiency in the state.

Azuka Eucheria, among other farmers who benefited from the grant and rice seeds, explained that it was difficult for them to buy from the market as cement bag of rice seeds was #22 0000 which they couldn’t afford.
The farmers expressed hope that with the new seed, they are expecting a bomber harvest during the harvesting period.
