EBONYI State Government has launched an Integrated Revenue Management System (IRMS) for effective revenue management in the state.
The IRMS is an end-to-end automated revenue and tax management system designed and delivered by the State IGR consultant, IRS Consults Limited, in collaboration with the ICT Unit of the State Internal Revenue Service.
Christopher Omo Isu Executive Chairman, Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Services, told journalists in Abakiliki that told journalists in Abakaliki that the new system would curb Revenue leakages and prove the IGR growth of the state.
He noted that To fund the state revenue growth with the attendant infrastructure, human capital development and other investments, the state needs to increase its IGR performance through Personal Income Tax, Non-Tax (Integrated Revenue), Motor Vehicle Services, Stamp Duty, and other levies.
“Currently, our IGR performance is at N13.7B per year (2021). With a State GDP of $5.5B (N7.9T), it means that Ebonyi is only able to achieve .17% (about 17% of 1%) in the IGR to GDP ratio. This is a very small number compared to the OECD average of 10-15% for developed economies. To achieve even 1% of the IGR to GDP ratio, we will need to deliver an IGR of N79.7B per year. This is our aspiration.
“To achieve the goal, Francis Nwifuru Governor of the state approved the engagement of an experienced revenue management company, IRS Consults (IRSC) Limited.
“IRSC has been working quietly for the last several months to help us with our vision. They have, in collaboration with the ICT Unit of the Service, designed and now installed a suite of applications to enable the state to manage all revenues and taxes across all MDAs in the state.
Omo Isu further explains that all certificates and revenue receipts can be verified on the IGR portal.
“Our Internal Revenue Service is now automated and online. So today is to officially launch what we have just started. ” He said.
