Ikwo Local Government area of Ebonyi State Monday began Screening Students of Ikwo origin in higher institutions for onward payment of their bursary allowance.
The screening will be in batches and will run till January 2024.
The exercise which commenced with the screening of students from the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Law, took place at Onuebonyi Echara, the Headquarters of Ikwo Local Government Area.
Mrs. Chinasa Itumo the Chairman of the Bursary Committee and Vice Chairman, of Ikwo Local Government Council, while addressing the students said the gesture was part of Mr. Sunday Nwankwo’s commitment towards the realization of the Legacy Mantra of his administration and urged the students to ensure orderliness while the exercise last.
Mrs. Itumo assured that upon completion of the first batch, the second phase shall take effect to ensure that all Students of Ikwo origin were screened and therefore thanked the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for providing the platform with which the program is being organized.
The Secretary of the Bursary Committee and former Vice Chairman, of Ikwo Local Government Council, Mr. Sunday Otah who described the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and that of Mr. Sunday Nwankwo as historic, called on the students to remain studious and focused to graduate with flying colors.
Mr. Otah while urging them to be good ambassadors of the Ikwo Local Government Area at all times, called on the students and Ikwo people to remain supportive of the present administrations at all levels to attract more dividends of democracy to the area.
Two of the Students, Mr. Gospel Oliga of Law Faculty, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, and Miss. Mmesomachi Eche of the Faculty of Medicine, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo said the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and Ikwo Council Chairman, Mr. Sunday Nwankwo have written their names in gold for initiating programs geared towards addressing their needs and promised to make Ikwo people proud by graduating with flying colors.
The screening exercise for the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Law will end Thursday, 16th November 2023
While Faculties of Health Sciences, Engineering, and Environmental Science will commence Monday, 4th December to Thursday, 7th December, 2023.
Other days are Monday, 8 January to Thursday, 11th January 2024: Faculties of Natural and Applied Sciences.
Monday, 29th January to Thursday, 1st February 2024: Faculties of Social Sciences, Management and Humanities.
Monday, 19th February to Thursday 22nd February, 2024: Faculties of Education and Agricultural Science.
