Former England Captain, 50, Receives Knighthood for Services to Sport and Charity, Inspired by the King’s Elegant Style
WINDSOR, UK – Football legend and philanthropist David Beckham was officially invested as a Knight Bachelor by King Charles at a ceremony held at Windsor Castle today. The former England captain, 50, described the honor—given for his services to sport and charity—as the “proudest moment” of his entire career.
Beckham attended the investiture alongside his wife, Lady Victoria Beckham, wearing a bespoke grey morning suit that he revealed was directly inspired by the monarch himself.
“The king definitely inspired this look,” said Beckham. “He was quite impressed with my suit. He’s kind of the most elegantly dressed man that I know, so he inspired quite a few of my looks over the years and he definitely inspired this look. It was something that my wife made me.”
The athlete expressed deep emotion over the recognition, which follows his inclusion in the King’s birthday honours list earlier this year.
“To be honest, a young boy from the East End of London, born in Leytonstone, and here at Windsor Castle, being honoured by his majesty the king – the most important and the most respected institution in the world – it’s quite a moment,” he reflected. “This is without doubt my proudest moment.”
Beyond his distinguished sporting achievements, Beckham was recognized for his enduring philanthropic work, which he has pursued since he was a teenager. He highlighted the “powerful tool” his public platform provides for driving change, having served as a Goodwill Ambassador for Unicef since 2005.
He emphasized that his dedication to charity is genuine: “All the things that I do, I do out of love. I don’t do it because I’m forced to do it, I don’t do it because I have to do it, I do it because it’s important.”
