In a joyous celebration of love and tradition, the Kwara Government extended warm wishes to 36 newlywed couples who were united in matrimony during the vibrant Awon mass wedding festival held in Shao, Moro Local Government Area.
The Awon mass wedding, a cherished annual cultural affair, honors women of marriageable age as they embark on their marital journey in unison with their beloved partners. This grand event not only draws communities together but also captivates attendees from far and wide, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of Kwara State.
Representing the Kwara Government at the event, Bolanle Olukoju, the Commissioner for Communications, expressed profound delight in the gathering. She emphasized, “Today is a momentous occasion, and we offer our gratitude to the Almighty for this annual celebration of union in Shao.”
Olukoju also extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Shao on the coronation of Oba Job Atolagbe as the new Ohoro of Shao. She affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to preserving and promoting the state’s cultural heritage, including cherished events like the Ilorin Emirate Durbar, Patigi Regatta, and Ganni festival.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, Abel Adewole, Chairman of the Shao Cultural Committee, highlighted the significance of the wedding festival in showcasing the community’s vibrant culture. He stated, “The 2023 Awon Mass Wedding is as remarkable as any other yearly event, and it holds a special place in the hearts of Shao’s people due to its deep-rooted cultural importance.”
