Lagos: UNIDA leadership collaborations with traditional Councils

 Executive members  of united non indigenes development association (UNIDA), led by its President Barrister Destiny Takon, today paid homage to leaders of the traditional councils in Lagos state.

The president  who was at the palace of Sarki Hausawa and  chairman council of Arewa chiefs of Lagos state, his royal highness Alhaji Kabiru Garba  said  it is time to strengthen the union by this courtesy  call to leaders of the traditional council living in Lagos and its environs,

Barrister Takon, took the Sarki Hausawa on a journey of how UNIDA was established and the involvement of the council of Arewas to this present day, seeking the Sarki to continue the goodwill of supporting the initiative of uniting union.

He said UNIDA is made of all the non Yoruba speaking living and constitute sixty percent of voters and economic development of Lagos state.

The president made clear that, the non indigenes support the government of the state in all activities as law abiding citizens but get a little in return.

It also receives highest punishment when it comes to molestation in the hands of agencies that makes up the state, giving an example of how the Mallam shoe shiner, Igbo tailor (Obioma), the Benin okada riders, the Ghanian born bread hawker, who will be arrested by task force and melted with serious penalty because they are not Yorubas while the Yorubas are left to go scot free, if caught in same act.

The president also stated that his people are being deceived with the appointment of one of their school mates or childhood friends as commissioners representing the Arewas or the Igbos in quote, whereas these appointments are not officially or suggested by the traditional councils that makes up this regions as such are not answerable to the regions it calls.

The union made comprehensible that it should be the unified agreement of the people before appointment of such is done to enable accountability,

He called on the traditional council to support the union in speaking the truth, when the truth is to be told and stop collecting peanut from politicians who will come to the palace with words of promises of building sky scrapers for them when in office which will never come.

Alhaji Kabiru Garba,  Sarki Hausawa of Lagos thanked the union for taking the initiative and vision to visit them and assured them of his support , that his cabinet will not condole acts that will tarnish the image of his people in the interest of political gimmicks, noticing that his father the late Sarki Hausawa and his brother Sarki Sani were all members of UNIDA and he will continue to support the cause for a developed people of diverse communities called the non-indigenes

Also speaking in the same strength was the Onu Igala Lagos state, HRH Alhaji Sani Yakubu also supported the vision and mission of the union and asked the executive to institute the traditional council that will run as fathers of the organization when the need calls, he seek the body to include all the organs that makes up the non- indigenes in the state to become members of the organization to show our numeric strength.

On the other hand, The Eze Ndigbo , HRH Nwabueze Ohazulike, (the Gburugburu) thanked the Exco of UNIDA for thinking  of unity at this very important  time as he gave his blessings .

Speaking earlier at the Eze Ndigbo’s palace, the union’s vice chairman, Chief Felix Orekweue, said the union is committed in supporting the activities of its members.

Adding to the words of Eze ndigbo was Chief (Dr). Ebubedike, who thanked the visiting UNIDA Excos for their time and extend hands of brotherliness and friendship of the Ibo community in Lagos by inviting the union to participate in the October, 2022 Yam festival,.

Among the high power delegates were the secretary 1 & 2 comrade Ezekiel Zik Kuni, Mrs. Kiki, Alh. Ahmed Danbatta, Mrs. Veronica Ogbuabga, Mr. Tony Ezenwn Chairman Shomolu and Chief Felix Orekweue. Others include Mrs. Kate Ogbepor and Chief Okafor Chidex.
