Former President of the Senate and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, said lack of good leadership, is Nigeria’s most problem which he will address when he succeeds President Mohammed Buhari in 2023.
Anyim said though insecurity, unemployment sounds as the major problem, good governance can address them.
He stated this when he appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, “One on One with Anyim” on Friday.
Senator Anyim noted that in governance or out of governance Nigeria should be considered first by every good leader.
According to him, Building consensus in governance is involving the people and that is one of the strategies he will adopt in rebuilding Nigeria if elected the president.
On his chances of winning the presidency in 2023, he noted that he has the pedigree to compete with his opponents and expressed hope that he will clinch the exalted seat of the number one citizen of the country in 2023.
Senator Anyim who spoke on many issues raised by the anchor of the program, also said that he didn’t have any personal problem with former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He said the problems that existed during his time at the Senate were between the Executive and Legislative, and not between him and Obasanjo as people may speculate.
He said, “I did not have any personal issue with President Obasanjo,”.
“Former President Obasanjo was a very outstanding President Nigeria ever had. President Obasanjo was focused and determined in all that he wanted to do.”
He went further to give details of the drama.
“We had a little disagreement, and it was the National Assembly and the Executive; not Pius Ayim and (former) President Obasanjo. What brought about the problem was a motion moved by Senator Idris Abubakar from Gombe, it wasn’t a motion moved by me.
“It was the action taken in the Senate that the former President was reacting to, and it was friction between National Assembly and the Executive.
“Of course, being the head of the legislature, I cannot run away from it; I was leading the legislature and he (Obasanjo) was leading the Executive on the other hand, but there was nothing personal.”
