Teenage Goal Machine Set for National League North Challenge
Middlesbrough has confirmed the loan transfer of promising Nigerian striker Hazeem Bakre to non-league side Darlington, as the youngster seeks more first-team experience.
Rising Star on the Move
Bakre, a 19-year-old forward known for his goal-scoring prowess, first made waves at Huddersfield Town, where he finished as the club’s U19 top scorer in the 2022-23 season with 16 goals. His performances earned him a move to Middlesbrough in the summer of 2024 after Huddersfield released him.
This season, Bakre has impressed in Premier League 2, netting six goals in nine matches and even securing a nomination for PL2 Player of the Month in October 2024.
Gaining First-Team Experience
The young striker got his first taste of senior football in December when he joined Dagenham & Redbridge on a youth loan, making three substitute appearances in the National League.
Now, he is set to continue his development at Darlington, who currently sit tenth in the National League North with 43 points from 28 matches. Bakre is expected to play a crucial role in their push for a higher finish.
Debut on the Horizon
Bakre is in contention to make his home debut this Saturday when Darlington faces Marine. His presence could provide a much-needed boost to Darlington’s attacking options as they aim for a strong second half of the season.
International Ambitions
Although eligible to represent other nations, Bakre has expressed openness to playing for Nigeria at the international level. He also has a twin brother, Halim Bakre, who is forging his own path in football.
With his latest move, all eyes will be on Hazeem Bakre as he looks to make an impact in senior football and continue his rapid rise in the English football pyramid.
