Mary-Maudline Nwifuru Wife of the Ebonyi State Mill has called on Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) to assist in curbing police brutality in the country.
The governor’s wife also urged the police to give listening ear to people’s defence before prosecution in order to identify innocent victims.
Nwifuru made the plea on Friday, when she received the women on a courtesy visit to her office at the centenary city government house, Abakaliki.
“I want to plead with you to speak with your husbands to reduce Police brutality in the state, which previously led to the end SARS protest”
“It is important that people should be given fair hearing in order to know the criminals and the innocent people.
Mrs. Nwifuru promised to partner the association in government activities and programmes in the state so as to promote the welfare of women.
The leader of the group, Mrs Miriam Anyai commended Mrs. Nwifuru for her contributions in making the state peaceful.
Anyai maintained that the officers wives would endeavour to sustain the tempo by standing solidly in support of their husbands, officers of the Nigeria police Force without whom there would be no POWA.
She explained that the organization which was formed in 1979 is a strong empowerment body that embarked on projects that add values to families of officers and stabilises the home front.
Her words, “the association is soliciting support in raising skills acquisition programmes among the POWA, PWA, LAPOWA and police community at large, POWA Complex, POWA shops, and event centers.
