MTN Faces Shutdown Without Urgent Tariff Increase, CEO Warns

MTN Nigeria CEO Karl Toriola has issued a stern warning that without a tariff increase, the telecom giant risks shutting down operations. During a media tour of MTN’s facilities in Lagos, Toriola stressed that rising operational costs, especially diesel prices and foreign exchange losses, have pushed the company to rely on its reserves. The CEO highlighted the urgent need for tariff hikes, emphasizing that without intervention, the financial viability of Nigeria’s telecom sector is at risk.
