The Press Release Issued by The Christian Association of Nigeria, (Can) Taraba State On the Attacks by Fulani Militia On Innocent People in Takum and Ussa Local Government Areas of Taraba State Has Attracted Attention as Mustapha Gembu Writes a Rejoinder

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN Taraba State Chapter has observed with dismay the series of attacks and onslaught going on for some times along the Takum and Ussa local government areas of Taraba State by suspected Fulani militia.

First and foremost, I’m neither for the fulanis, nor for the Muslims or for any group of people like, CAN being for the Christians be it good or bad elements, rather I’m for an adage which says; say something when you hear or see something.

For the Christians Association of Nigeria, CAN Taraba Chapter coming to conclusion and to express dismay without any evidence to prove their allegations that fulanis are the attackers and the killers along Takum and Ussa LGAs of Taraba state. I want the entire Members of CAN chapter in Taraba state and its Chairman be arrested with immediate for having an inside of the insecurity bedevieling Taraba state especially the Southern zone.

I equally want to know as alleged, how many cows that belong to fulanis were killed, rustled, and poisoned to deaths unprovoked by the either the Jukuns or the Kuteb gun-wielding milittias across Takum and Ussa LGA respectively.

Before I forget, who is behind the arming the Kutebs and Jukuns militia with sophisticated arms like AKs, pump-action rifles, machine guns, and so on as being said and reported by many in the perpetrations of mayhem across the region.

No doubt the attacks which has been taken place unabating, has resulted in the death of many innocent people while several commuters also fall victims

Likewise, it’s also being said the CAN’s foot soldiers that is the either the gun-wielding Kutebs or Jukun militias are behind attacking and even killing commuters, motorists, passers bye and travelers along the war ridden Takum and Ussa axis of the Southern Taraba state.

It is disheartening that same Fulani militia who have been killing people and of recent Soldiers including the Commanding Officer of the 93 Battalion of the Nigeria Army in Takum, can still return within shortest time and attack innocent communities while Federal Government folds it arm as if it does not exist.

To level allegations to paint the fulanis black as killers, the world yet to forget the bloodbath, massacre, genocide, mass murder, burning, and the destructive destruction perpetrated on the innocent Tiv farmers by the murderous Jukun militias across Takum and some part of Wukari LGA of the same Taraba state.

CAN want to ask why were the security check points mounted along that axis (Mararraba -Takum road) removed prior to the attacks. Where are the security Men, why were they withdrawn, who withdrew them, and for what reason?

For laying baseless allegations and fabricated lies to attract sympathy and accuse the security agents of complicity in the so-called attacks by Fulani along Takum and Ussa LGAs..

For CAN Taraba State Chapter being the mouthpiece of politics and de facto government in the state, it ought to have forwarded this sensitive issue to the office of the National Security adviser to the President and the Nigeria Army head quarter for drastic actions instead of coming to heat the polity, create tension and fear among Tarabans and Nigeria at large.

Further, since the CAN chapter in the state can have reports of withdrawing security men at checkpoints as alleged before attacks, I believe CAN members can have more power, war tactics, and the means to defend its members better than the falsely accused security agents.

Again as being witnessed, narrated by victims, passer  by, and the locals, both Kutebs and Jukuns are well armed with dangerously weapons. If I may ask; who is there sponsors, arms supplier and the commanders in the non-stop bullying and perpetration of mayhem along Takum, Ussa and Wukari LGAs respectively. Why the zones have been at war with itself even when fulanis are not mentioned?

CAN is not pleased with the attitude of the Federal Government towards the security situation of the country where only lips service is the order of the day without any serious commitment. Its high time that the Federal Government of Nigeria led by President Muhammadu Buhari, begin to match words with action in the areas of security so as to save the nation from eminent collapse. Government must be truthful in its action against terrorism and banditry so as to win the fight.

I’m also not please at all, one of your own, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku is the chief security officer in the state. Why pointing your fingers only on President Buhari, and the presidency? Where are your Taraba Marshall boys recruited, trained, and armed by Baba DDI to check insecurity across the state? Why don’t you call for reinforcements since our security agents are no longer helpful to defend your members?

I learned that you have local vigilantes and able youths too, why don’t they also partake alongside the Taraba marshals in the restoration of law, order, normalcy, and the security of lives and properties of your members but choose to be shedding crocodile tears, and crying like hungry babies?

CAN also express dismay that despite repeated calls on the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA to alleviate the suffering of the displaced people, the agency has not responded to the plight of the people.

Haba! CAN Chapter in Taraba state, the body is known as the de facto government and mouthpiece in Taraba state that is key in the decision taken, decides who to be elected, appointed, promoted and so on, since NEMA is not responding to your distress calls possibly because of too many calls. Why don’t you, the CAN members in the state come to the succour of your members on the provision of relief materials that made up food, bedding materials and shelters the way its swiftly attacks and respond to any critics of the government of the day for bring headed by one of your own i.e. governor DDI alias Baba Cucumber.

It urges believers not to relent in prayers in this trying moment and urged them not only to be security conscious but to strive to prioritize their security and well-being and resist any form of attack.

Besides seeking divine intervention for rescue and emancipation of your members from the menace of insecurity bedeviling state, don’t also forget to pray for the country at large, because the north west is being faced with banditry, Northeast with Boko Haram, Southeast with the murderous IPOB/ESN members masquerading as Unknown gunmen as well to end the incessant between the Jukun farmers and the Tiv farmers across Wukari, and Takum LGAs of the Taraba state.

The security breached has not only worsen the security situation of the areas but subjected the people to untold hardships, and hampering economic activities.

Equally to the Fulani herders across Takum, Ussa and Wukari, they are being affected from cattle killings, rustling and poisoning to deaths by some suspected people either among the Kutebs or the Jukuns tribesmen.

Like others besides the unprovoked killings, rustling and poisoning of their animals, many fulanis especially women and children have been attacked, and hacked to death either by some suspected Kuteb or Jukun farmers.

The most worrisome, alarming and threatening in the state is that many of the locals, travelers and motorists keeps testifying of encountering Kutebs and Jukuns youths perambulating in the bushes and forests of the region with guns of different types on their shoulders, I want the CAN chapter in the state to also investigate that for us and the for security reports.

Furthermore, the unfortunate attacks are coming at a time the people are supposed to be serious with farming activities. If People are not allowed to go to their farms peacefully, only God knows what will happen as there are so many predictions of impending famine.

It’s heartbreaking, like farming activities being hampered by the reported insecurity bedeviling the region which may lead to famine in the land, as reported cows herding activities are also getting paralyzed as a result of unprovoked attacks, killings, rustling, and poisoning to deaths by criminals leading to so many predictions of causing meat, and milk scarcity not only across the region, or Taraba but Nigeria at large for Taraba being a bulk producer of beef, milk, hides, and skin from cows in the country.
