Nestlé Nigeria Launches 2024 Community Scholarship to Empower Young Minds in Host Communities
Nestlé Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering Nigerian youth through the Community Scholarship Program, a vital educational support initiative aimed at high-achieving secondary and tertiary students in communities surrounding its operations. Since its inception in 2020, this program has continued to provide financial assistance for studies in Science and Technology, covering tuition, accommodation, uniforms, and essential educational materials, thus ensuring promising students can fully focus on their educational journeys.
This year, a total of 90 verified applicants will benefit from grants amounting to ₦18 million, underscoring Nestlé’s dedication to creating shared value through strategic community support. The scholarship application portal opens on November 5 and closes on December 8, 2024.
Victoria Uwadoka, Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, and Sustainability Lead at Nestlé Nigeria, shared insights on the program’s vision at the 2023/2024 award ceremony, emphasizing Nestlé’s link between its corporate success and the well-being of the communities it serves. “We are proud to make meaningful financial contributions that ease educational burdens and help families nationwide. Our scholarship program empowers students to excel and stay globally competitive,” she noted. Uwadoka encouraged recipients to work toward academic excellence as a way to maximize these resources and continue building bright futures.
The recent award ceremony for the 2023/2024 cohort saw 65 students from Abaji, Agbara, and Sagamu awarded scholarships, with representatives from the communities’ leadership expressing gratitude for Nestlé’s commitment to educational and youth empowerment. Community leaders, including the Ona of Abaji, the Alagbara of Agbara, and the Akarigbo of Remo Land, recognized the scholarship’s positive impact on their communities and voiced their support for Nestlé’s ongoing efforts.
Scholarship recipients echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for the program’s positive impact on their academic and career aspirations. Adeyemi Gbenga Daniel, a tertiary scholarship recipient studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos, reflected on the program’s role in fueling his ambition: “The Nestlé Community Scholarship has allowed us to pursue our dreams without financial obstacles. This support drives our passion for education and opens doors that once felt beyond reach.”
Nestlé’s scholarship program is part of the company’s wider Creating Shared Value (CSV) initiative, which encompasses community engagement and support in host regions.
