Nestlé Nigeria PLC Inaugurates Water and Sanitation Facilities LG Primary School, Ogun State

Amidst jubilant celebrations, learners and educators at LG Primary School, Adie Owe, Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government of Ogun State, witnessed the inauguration of vital Water and Sanitation Facilities, courtesy of Nestlé Nigeria PLC. Serving a community of over 500 individuals, including students, teachers, and local families, the provision of these facilities marks a significant milestone in promoting health and education within the region.

The initiative at LG Primary School Adie Owe is part of Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK), a comprehensive school-based nutrition and health education program focused on fostering Healthy Nutrition, Healthy Hydration, Physical Activity, and Hygiene practices among students. Recognizing the pivotal role of hygiene within the N4HK framework, Nestlé’s investment in water and sanitation infrastructure underscores its commitment to holistic health education, improving quality of life, and fostering resilient communities.

Victoria Uwadoka, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager at Nestlé Nigeria, emphasized the importance of access to water and sanitation facilities in supporting hygiene standards, particularly within educational settings. She highlighted Nestlé’s dedication to this cause, with ten schools in Ogun State already benefiting from similar initiatives, serving a total of 4,000 learners and educators, along with surrounding communities.

Aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG-6) – ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all – the commissioning of these facilities represents a tangible step towards fulfilling Nestlé’s commitment to universal access to water within N4HK schools.

Representatives from the Ogun State Government also lauded Nestlé’s collaborative efforts, recognizing the company’s contributions to promoting a conducive learning environment. The provision of water and sanitation facilities not only supports education but also safeguards the health and well-being of students, as highlighted by the commendations from the Honorable Commissioner of Education, Science, and Technology.

Expressing gratitude for the transformative impact of the facilities, learners like Darasinmi Agunbiade highlighted the newfound convenience and improved hygiene practices facilitated by Nestlé’s intervention. Their sentiments were echoed by Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, Chairperson of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, who emphasized the long-term benefits of such initiatives in bolstering educational outcomes and community development.

Nestlé’s commitment to addressing water and sanitation challenges extends beyond LG Primary School, with similar initiatives implemented across the country. As underscored by the World Bank’s statistics, the provision of WASH facilities is essential for promoting human well-being and achieving positive outcomes in education, nutrition, and health. With millions still lacking access to these basic amenities, initiatives like Nestlé’s play a crucial role in advancing socio-economic development and ensuring a brighter future for communities across Nigeria.
