The Nigerian Senate will now resume from its annual recess on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, following a one-week postponement. This was disclosed in a memorandum issued by Chinedu Akubueze, the Clerk of the Senate, on Wednesday.
Initially scheduled to reconvene on September 17, 2024, the Senate’s return has been delayed based on directives from the Senate leadership. The internal memo, titled “Change in Resumption Date from Summer Break,” informed all lawmakers of the revised date and time of resumption.
The memo stated: “Please be informed that the resumption date from the ongoing recess has been rescheduled from Tuesday, September 17, 2024, to Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 11 am.”
The Senate had embarked on its recess on July 23, 2024, with the initial plan to resume legislative duties in mid-September. However, the extension has delayed proceedings by an additional week.
