Nominee Rejects CBN Board Offer Over World Bank Role: Senate Confirmation Updates
A nominee for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Board of Directors, Urum Kalu Eke, has declined the offer, citing current engagement with the World Bank. This revelation surfaced during the Senate’s confirmation process for nominees.
President Bola Tinubu had nominated Urum and four others for board membership on February 13. However, during the confirmation proceedings, former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Kalu, informed the Senate that Urum had rejected the offer due to conflicts with his consultancy role at the World Bank and other entities.
Senator Kalu stated, “The nominee informed me that this role would conflict with his job as a consultant to the World Bank, Federal Government agencies, and other private companies.”
Meanwhile, the Senate confirmed the appointments of four other CBN Board Directors: Robert Agbede, Ado Yakubu Wanka, Professor Murtala Sabo Sagagi, and Mrs. Muslimat Olanike Aliyu. This confirmation followed the consideration of a report presented by Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance & Other Financial Institutions.
Senator Abiru outlined the committee’s findings, noting that Urum Kalu Eke was not cleared due to his failure to appear for screening.
