Commandant Maku Olatunde Confirms Robust Security Readiness for Gubernatorial Election, Vows Impartial and Civil Operations
AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE – November 4, 2025 – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed its full operational readiness for the upcoming Anambra State off-cycle governorship election. State Commandant Maku Olatunde joined other participants at the INEC Stakeholders Forum to finalize preparations and reinforce the security commitment to a peaceful and credible electoral process.
The strategic forum, held at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, was convened by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to update the public on preparedness and security arrangements for a hitch-free election.
Commandant Maku affirmed that the NSCDC, operating under the umbrella of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), will maintain close collaboration with sister agencies. He emphasized that the Corps will operate impartially and with dedication to the common goal of securing the polls.
The Commandant issued a direct warning to officers and men, advising them against negligence and complacency and strictly requiring them to be polite and civil in the discharge of their duties.
The NSCDC’s primary security mandate includes providing adequate protection for:
- The electorate at polling booths.
- INEC facilities and officials at collation centers throughout the election period.
Addressing the diverse gathering, INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan thanked the security agencies for their collaboration. He reassured the public that comprehensive measures were in place to safeguard all election officials, observers, and voters. The Chairman stressed the Commission’s commitment to delivering a free, fair, and credible election that genuinely reflects the will of Anambra State’s citizens.
The forum was well-attended by key stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, the media, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), traditional rulers, and election observers.
