The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has unveiled images of the tragic helicopter crash site near the California-Nevada border, which claimed the lives of Herbert Wigwe, Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, his wife, son, former Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group) chairman Abimbola Ogunbanjo, and multiple crew members.
The crash, which occurred last Friday, prompted swift action from the NTSB, an independent agency mandated by the US Congress to investigate civil aviation and transportation accidents nationwide. Investigators have been deployed to the site to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Since arriving at the scene, NTSB officials have been diligently updating the public on the progress of their investigation. Michael Graham, a board member, disclosed on Sunday that aerial drone mapping and thorough documentation of the wreckage had been conducted. He noted that the debris field spanned approximately 100 yards, with all major components of the helicopter identified.
The enumerated components included three main rotor blades, the main transmission, the engine, tail rotor landing, and gear skids. Graham outlined that while a preliminary report is expected within 30 days, a comprehensive NTSB investigation typically spans 12 to 24 months before a final report is issued.
On Wednesday, the NTSB released photographs depicting investigators at the crash site, revealing the wreckage of the Airbus Helicopters EC-130 near Halloran Springs, California. The images underscore the gravity of the incident and the meticulous efforts underway to ascertain its causes.
