New Initiative Aims to Curb Smuggling of Petroleum Products
The Nigeria Customs Service has launched a bold new initiative, “Operation Whirlwind,” aimed at eradicating the smuggling of petroleum products. The operation was officially inaugurated by Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi on May 22, 2024, in Abuja.
“Operation Whirlwind” is a strategic, intelligence-driven effort designed to thwart the smuggling of petroleum products to neighboring countries.
A comprehensive workshop at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College equipped the Operation Whirlwind team with the skills and knowledge necessary to combat smuggling effectively, Comptroller-General Adeniyi underscored a zero-tolerance stance on sabotage, warning that any individuals undermining the mission will face severe repercussions.
Adeniyi highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration among officers, noting that the selected team and their coordinator have an impeccable track record. The Director of Legal Services is set to provide the team with training on proper seizure procedures, ensuring all legal aspects of operations are meticulously handled.
The inauguration of Operation Whirlwind represents a significant advancement in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against smuggling and economic sabotage.
