Pan-Atlantic University proudly announces its partnership with CESEL (Clean Energy Systems Engineering Limited) and the University of Lincoln, UK, on an ambitious biogas innovation project funded by a £219,000 Innovate UK grant. This groundbreaking collaboration seeks to develop advanced biodigesters to revolutionize biogas production at a large-scale poultry farm in Aikun, Osun State, while addressing critical energy and environmental challenges in Nigeria.
The innovative project will transform poultry waste into renewable biogas, replacing outdated and inefficient biodigester models. This shift aims to enhance efficiency, promote safety, and maximize the benefits of biogas as a sustainable energy source.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Patrick Tolani, CEO of CESEL, highlighted the transformative potential of the project:
“This grant provides a unique opportunity to showcase a pathway toward environmental sustainability in Nigeria’s agricultural and renewable energy sectors. With Nigeria’s potential to generate 25,000 megawatts of electricity from biogas, as per the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), this project can contribute significantly to addressing the nation’s energy deficit and fostering economic growth.”
By leveraging state-of-the-art biodigesters, this project positions itself as a pioneering solution to the twin challenges of waste management and energy shortages, while opening doors for further economic growth and agricultural innovation.

“Thanks to the support from Innovate UK, this knowledge transfer partnership aims at developing local competencies and innovative solutions that address local energy needs. By producing biogas from agricultural and animal waste, we can support diverse applications on farms, including electricity generation, and bring sustainable energy practices to rural areas.”
