Two sons of the foremost founding father of Ebonyi State, Late Senator Offia Nwali was on Wednesday arrested by Ebonyi Police command during the All Progressive Congress primaries held at Onueke, Ezza South.
Rollins Offia Nwali a Lawyer, and an aspirant in the APC House of Assembly primaries, and his brother Alfred Offia Nwali were arrested at the Onueke in Ezza South local government area.
He was contesting for the Ezza South State Constituency seat for the state House of Assembly.
A source said they were arrested at the venue of the primaries in Onueke, the Headquarters of the local government.
The source alleged that office Nwali was arrested for refusing to step down for his opponent in the election.
“He was called severally from government house to step down but he told them that as the son of one of the founding fathers of the State, the opponent should be the one to step down for him”.
“He had received so many threats over the election but he refused to step down preferring to go to the field”
“They arrested him because they saw that he was going to win as he has a large following in the constituency”.
The source also alleged that his supporters including some of the delegates were chased out of the election venue.
The elder Brother of the two brothers, Oguzor Offia Nwali confirmed the arrests of the brothers.
He also alleged that the arrest was instigated by top political office holders in the area who wanted Rollins out of the way to pave the way for their preferred candidate to win.
“Yes, my two brothers were arrested and we heard they have been taken to the Police Headquarters in Abakaliki”.
The Police public relations officer in the state, SP Chris Anyanwu could not be reached for his reaction as his phone lines were switched off.
