Sen. Obinna Ogba, senator representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone in the National Assembly has been declared the winner of the rescheduled governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ebonyi State chapter.
Senator Ogba the two-term senator, is also the Chairman senate committee on youth and sports.
He is from the Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi state.
The gubernatorial primary election took place Sunday, at the PDP secretariat located along the Abakaliki/Enugu Highway amidst tight security.
The election which started with the accreditation of voters ended at midnight.
Before the election commenced, one of the aspirants Eze Emmanuel, from Ebonyi north stepped down from the race.
He said his reason was to enable his Izzi brother Slyverster Ogbaga to win the election.
Mr. Chris Okolo, electoral committee Chairman for the governorship Primary election in the State, declared Sen. Ogba the winner.
He announced that the total number of accredited delegates was 513, 8 governorship aspirants participated in the primary elections, while 3 aspirants were absent one stepped down.
The governorship aspirants that were absent include Sunday Ofoke, Chris Usulor, and Chukwuma Odii.
According to him, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii scored 1 vote, Dr. Nwazunku Ugbala scored 1 vote, Igwe Paulinus scored 2 votes, Austin Edeze scored 3 votes, Chukwuma Nwazunku scored 6 votes, Sylvester Ogbaga scored 63 votes, professor Adeze Nwuzor 0 vote, Hon. Edwin Anayo got 110 votes, Fidelis Nwankwo got 44 votes and Obinna Ogba scored 253 votes, invalid votes 14.
The Chairman of the electoral committee, Okolo said, “Senator Obinna Ogba scored the highest votes of 253 and by the power conferred on me, I hereby declare him the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial primary election in Ebonyi State.”
In his acceptance speech, the winner, Sen. Obinna Ogba commended stakeholders of the party and delegates for founding him worthy to fly the flag of the party in the State and vowed to reconcile all aggrieved party members, especially his opponents.
He noted that the party was prepared to take over governance from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State come to the 2023 general election.
The State chairman of the PDP, Tochukwu Okorie, on his part, thanked
the electoral committee for conducting a transparent gubernatorial primary election in the State.
He called on the other aspirants to unite and give support to the flag-bearer, Ogba, to enable the PDP to take over governance from the ruling APC, in the State.
