In the wake of extreme weather that has battered parts of the Western Cape since the weekend, Shoprite has swiftly mobilized to support affected community members. The Shoprite Mobile Soup Kitchens have been on the ground, providing warm meals to thousands of displaced residents, serving approximately 6,000 meals (consisting of soup and bread) daily. Currently, they are focusing their efforts on the communities of Khayelitsha, Philippi, Strand, and Sir Lowry’s Pass Village.
“We remain in close contact with the relevant disaster relief organizations and local authorities to determine what aid is required and how we can be of further support,” stated Sanjeev Raghubir, Chief Sustainability Officer at the Shoprite Group.
Customers who wish to contribute to the relief efforts can donate as little as R5 to the #ActForChange Fund at the till points in all Shoprite, Checkers, and Usave supermarkets. 100% of the donations collected will be directed to Gift of the Givers in support of nationwide relief efforts.
