Fake DSP Arrested: Sokoto Police Nab Impostor Swindling Job Seekers
The Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested Abdulnasir Bello, who is accused of fraudulently impersonating a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). During a press conference at the command headquarters in Sokoto, Commissioner of Police (CP) Ali Kaigama announced that the 27-year-old suspect was apprehended after numerous complaints from victims.
CP Kaigama revealed that Bello deceived individuals by promising assistance in securing recruitment positions within the Nigeria Police Force. The case surfaced in 2018 when Danjuma Garba from Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, alongside three others, reported to the state CID in Sokoto that Bello had extorted N420,000 from them under the guise of facilitating their recruitment.
Following a tip-off, police operatives confronted Bello at the Sokoto State Police Headquarters on May 21, 2024. During interrogation, Bello admitted to impersonating a police officer since 2016, posing as a DSP, and collecting money from parents with false promises of getting their children recruited into the force.
The police search of Bello’s residence uncovered various exhibits, including a Police training manual, NPF guarantor form, letters of introduction and provisional offers, and passport photographs of 27 applicants. Other items recovered included a Police Face Cap, a Camouflage cap, and a forged police identity card, all created by Abdulaziz Shuaib, a 29-year-old resident of Bado Area.
CP Kaigama confirmed that Bello would soon face charges in court.
