South African Man Urges Nigerians to End Harmful Bolt Ride Prank, Cites Massive Business Losses
A South African man, known online as Grand Dilan, has made a heartfelt plea on social media, urging Nigerians to stop a prank involving the ride-hailing app, Bolt. In a viral video posted on Tuesday, Dilan went on his knees, expressing deep concern over the prank’s negative impact on businesses.
The prank, which began as a rivalry between some South Africans and Nigerians, involves ordering a Bolt ride in Lagos, Nigeria, from South Africa, only to cancel the order when the driver arrives at the pick-up location. Nigerians responded by doing the same in Johannesburg and Cape Town, leading to a tit-for-tat cycle of cancellations.
In the video, Dilan stated that the prank had escalated far beyond what was initially intended, causing significant harm to businesses in South Africa. “Nigerians, I’m on my knees. I’m begging you people to stop this. You guys have skyrocketed to another level,” he pleaded.
He further explained that the prank had led to the closure of many businesses and the deactivation of apps, as ride-hailing services struggled to cope with the chaos. “You guys have damaged a lot of businesses back in South Africa. So many businesses have closed apps. This is getting out of hand. You are destroying people’s businesses. You have destroyed millions,” Dilan added.
The video has sparked widespread discussion online, with many calling for an end to the prank to prevent further economic damage.
