Salaudeen Waliu, a 400 level male student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) was arrested on thursday for allegedly attacking a female lecturer.
Salaudeen Waliu battered his victim Mrs. Zakariyyah of the department of microbiology, to a coma.
Spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command Ajayi Okasanmi said the incident had not been reported to the command for investigation,but sources at the university stated that Salaudeen Waliu had been handed over to the police.
The school’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun confirmed the incident.
In a statement, Akogun said: “This is to confirm that Mrs Zakariyyah is now relatively stable and recuperating after the ugly incident of Thursday where she was attacked by a 400 Level male student.
Salaudeen Waliu, alias Captain Walz, a 400 level student of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Ilorin, explained his reasons for battering his lecturer mrs. Zakariyau with claims to have gone to the office of the female lecturer ,pleading for her help to wave the mandatory SIWES course which he missed.

Salaudeen Waliu, stated to University Campus Journalists, UCJ-Ilorin, that ” months before the last incident, he was arrested and locked up for two months, thereby warranting his inability to attend SIWES duties. His arrest took place at Allen Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos State, when he went to meet a friend for the first time he claimed to have been waiting for his friend when he felt the sudden urge to urinate.
Salaudeen urinated near a car parked by drainage afterwards he was challenged by someone who must have washed the car. the individual accused him of being a thief which led to jungle justice until he was later handed over to the police .
Salaudeen also claimed to approach Mrs Zakariyau to explain to her his ordeal but the lecturer said there was no help to offer, except he joined the next set which would result in an extra year.
He said on the fateful Thursday when he entered the lecturer’s office, she ordered him out of her office.
” I got angry, I don’t know what came over me, I started arguing and she told me to leave her office, I told her if I don’t leave, what is she going to do?
“She then threw a mug at me which injured me and I started beating her,” he claimed.
Salaudeen said the female lecturer did not fight back, so he went on to beat her and later dragged her out of her office to continue the beating.

” I dragged her out and she ran. I chased and kept beating her before people came. I tried to run but was later caught by the school security,” he stated in the security cell of the institution where he was locked up since he was returned from ‘F’ Divisional Police station, Tanke in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
Later on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman AbdulKareem , the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Oladiji; the Director, University Health Services, Dr. Odunola and a few other staffs paid a visit to the victim and her family.
the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman AbdulKareem assured that justice shall be done on the matter, he also ordered that the victim be given proper care on the account of the university.
