TARABA PDP: ZONING THE ONLY WAY

Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba State has insisted on zoning of the party’s seat in the state.
Speaking from the caucus meeting of the Peoples Democratic party stakeholders in Jalingo the capital of Taraba state yesterday.

Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has said the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Taraba state would strictly adhere to zoning arrangements to choose its candidates for the next election.

The Governor during a close door meeting with elected office holders and appointees in Jalingo also added that politicians who have spent more than eight years in an office would not be allowed to retain same office for the next election.

A source close to National glint at the meeting which was presided by the Deputy Governor Haruna Manu said the Governor alongside leaders of the PDP have resolved that power shifts will include governorship, Senate, Representative and state assembly elections.

Governor Ishaku who promised not to interfere in the primary election process said other zones should be allowed to produce candidates for the purpose of fairness and justice.

Under this new arrangement, elected office holders who are holding a position more than eight years would not be allowed to contest for same office in the next election.

A zoning committee was however constituted to review zoning arrangements of the party at all level.

Top among those the party will not be reconsidering for re-election are Senator Shuaibu Lau representing Northern zone; Hon Danladi Baido Members representing Karim Lamido, Lau and Ardo Kola Federal Constituency; Hon Rima Shawulu Member representing Takum, Donga and Usaa Federal Constituency, Hon Joseph Albasu Kunini Speaker Taraba State House of Assembly.

Also members representing Yorro and former Deputy Speaker Alhaji Danladi Gwampo; Bonzena Kizito from Zing; Habila Timothy Anderifun from Ussa; Lawal Abdulkadir from Ibbi among others

Members of the party who attended the meeting were excited by the decision of the Governor to allow fresh people emerged as the candidate of the party.

“The new arrangement is the Party will not allow those who are sitting tight to one position to continue, for instance some individuals have spent more than 16 years in the Assembly, we have a federal lawmaker who is on is third term and still wants to return, but from yesterday’s meeting anyone seeking third term will not be allowed.”
