The Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has, on Wednesday, sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf the sitting governor of the state.
The three-man panel of judges delivered the judgment via Zoom, declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Yusuf Ganuwa, winner of the March 18 election.
Yusuf, the candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
But the APC candidate took the NNPP to the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal after which the Tribunal announced that the judgement will be transmitted virtually via Zoom.
The Tribunal, in keeping to the announcement, sat and read out the judgement at the Miller Road, Kano High Court complex via Zoom as the three-member panel of judges are not physically present in the courtroom.
Journalists, lawyers, party members, and many others were denied access to the court premises on Wednesday.
When the proceedings commenced Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, Chairman of the three-member panel, spoke via Zoom.
Reacts to the Sacking of Kano State Governor by Tribunal the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, said the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s verdict, called for peace from the citizens of Kano State.
The tribunal judgment handed down on Wednesday, September 20, sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the APC as the duly elected governor of the state.
Ganduje, in an address to the press at his Abuja residence, urged the people of Kano to maintain tranquillity. He assured them that prosperity would once again grace their businesses.
Ganduje was accompanied by Gawuna and former state governor Senator Kabir Gaya.
In his response, Gawuna, the APC candidate endorsed as the winner by the tribunal, pledged to carry forward the legacy of the previous administration led by Ganduje, during which he served as deputy governor.
He also encouraged the populace to conduct their work and business affairs peacefully, deeming the judgment as the divine will of “Allah.”
