The United Nations (UN) has declared that mines in Yemen pose a great trouble in numerous corridor of the country.
A written statement was made by the UN Mission to Support the Hudeidah Agreement (UNMHA) on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
“In Yemen, ground mines and other explosives with remnants of war pose a trouble in numerous corridor of the country, including the city of Hodeidah.”In the statement, which included the statement, the residers of Hudeyde area and those who’ll come to celebrate Eid with it were called to stay away from the areas where there’s a mine threat.
The statement also called on citizens not to approach structures that were destroyed or damaged in the war.
Since the beginning of the war, the Iranian- backed Houthis have laid nearly 2 million landmines across the country, according to Yemeni government and human rights reports. These mines caused the death and injury of thousands of civilians.
2-month ceasefire in Yemen with UN action
The Iranian- backed Houthis have been in control of the capital Sana’a and some regions since September 2014. Coalition forces led by Saudi Arabia have been supporting the Yemeni government against the Houthis since March 2015.
Hans Grundberg, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, declared that the Yemeni government and the Houthis agreed to suspend air, land and ocean operations for 2 months, starting at 1900 original time on April 2.
