In commemoration of the 2024 International Women’s Day, Unity Bank Plc has teamed up with the Association of Nigerian Women Business Network (ANWBN) to extend support to over 90 women groups nationwide through the Yanga Account initiative.
During a forum held in Abuja, Unity Bank introduced the Yanga account to the women’s groups, offering tailored product packages aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs. These packages include capacity-building opportunities, MSME financing schemes, affordable health insurance, and efficient cash management solutions.
Under the theme “Building Sustainable Entrepreneurial and Financial Skills for Women in Challenging Times,” Mrs. Adenike Abimbola, Divisional Head of Retail & SME Banking at Unity Bank Plc, highlighted the bank’s commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs. She revealed that more than 5,000 women have already benefited from the Yanga savings account since its launch in 2021.
The Yanga Savings Account initiative was designed to bolster the efforts of Nigerian women entrepreneurs by promoting their businesses, enhancing their skill sets, and granting them access to micro-loans and health insurance.
Adenike emphasized the successful partnership between Unity Bank and ANWBN, which has facilitated the empowerment of Nigerian women through skills development and access to credit facilities, including single-digit interest-free loans, thereby expanding the MSME landscape in the country.
Angela Ajala, the National Coordinator of ANWBN, expressed gratitude to Unity Bank for its support, highlighting the resonance of Yanga’s offerings with the association’s mission to equip women with the necessary tools, resources, and knowledge to thrive as entrepreneurs and financial leaders.
This collaboration follows Unity Bank’s recent partnership with SkillPaddy to provide Software Engineering Training to 1,000 female beneficiaries, further underscoring the bank’s commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering women in honor of International Women’s Day 2024.
